Background career information: John graduated from University College Dublin in 1999. Following training in internal medicine he commenced specialist training in haematology in 2003.
In 2006 he moved to the UK to continue his training at University College London Hospitals and in 2007 was awarded a Cancer Research UK clinical research fellowship to study the effects of bone marrow micro-environmental factors in multiple myeloma. He was awarded a PhD from University College London for his thesis entitled “The role of April in promoting cell progression and drug resistance in multiple myeloma”. He took up his current position at Beaumont and Connolly Hospitals in 2010.
Research and Clinical Interests: John’s main research and clinical interests include myeloma, amyloidosis and lymphoma. As an investigator with Blood Cancer Network Ireland (BCNI), he is actively involved in recruiting patients to several early phase myeloma clinical trials as well as an expanding number of studies in CLL and lymphoma.
Dr. Quinn works closely with laboratory researchers in the Royal College of Surgeons and current projects are focused on pre-clinical models in CLL and myeloma. John is a past secretary of the Irish Haematology Society as well as a member of the International Kidney Myeloma Working Group and a board member of the Irish Myeloma charity and support group Multiple Myeloma Ireland.
