Ger Walpole was appointed as Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (RANP) in haematology at Sligo University Hospital in September 2017.
Prior to this Ger trained at St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin where she worked in the haematology/oncology department for 10years. She also worked as clinical nurse specialist in haematology (CNS) at Galway University Hospital prior to
commencing as CNS at Sligo University hospital in 2003 where she was involved in setting up the current haematology service and held the posts of CNS and Candidate ANP in haematology. She completed her masters in advanced nurse practice with prescribing authority at NUI Galway in 2017, completing her research in myeloma and stem cell transplant which has been published in the European Journal of Oncology Nursing.
Her areas of expertise include MPN’s, Myeloma, MGUS, CLL and Lymphoma. She is actively involved in haematology patient and nurse education and regularly presents at local, national, regional and European forums. She also set up and facilitates a regional support group for patients with myeloma in the North West.
